Mulled Wine for Two – Recipe

There's nothing like a warming cup of mulled wine on a chilly winter's day. But don't go to a Christmas fair and pay £7 for a small cup of overboiled battery acid: make it at home instead for a sweet, fragrant treat that's a fraction of the price.

See how it's done on Tashcakes Cooks:

Ready? Let's go.

Ingredients:

1/2 bottle red wine
2 x fresh orange slices
5 x fresh apple slices
2 x cinnamon sticks
1 x blade of mace
1 x star anise
3 x green cardamom pods
2 x cloves
1 tbsp light muscovado sugar

Method:

1. Add everything to a saucepan and bring to a gentle barely-simmering bubble – make sure it doesn't come to a boil.

2. Let simmer for about 20 minutes, or until the apples and orange rinds become saturated with wine and become dark red.

3. Leave to cool for five minutes before serving (at least five minutes if you're going to serve them in glasses to prevent shattering).

Enjoy, and drink responsibly.
