Milo Dinosaur Lava Toast Recipe / Milo Dinosaur Milk Toast Recipe

My Milo dinosaur lava toast is modelled on that viral Nesquick lava toast that was making the rounds on Tiktok – only with a heaping amount of Milo to mirror the Malaysian Milo dinosaur drink, and a thicker, more custard-cream like milk lava rather than a thin and runny one.

To make a Milo dinosaur drink, Milo powder is mixed with milk to create a chocolatey drink, it's served over ice, and then even more dry Milo powder is spooned on top so you also get to eat crunchy, chocolatey clumps with it (trust me, it's AMAZINGLY good).

Spooned on top of a luxuriously smooth white milk custard, it also forms the same kind of delicious chocolatey clumps. And served on top of two fat French toast slices drizzled with sweetened condensed milk, it's even dreamier. And super satisfying to cut into the French toast stack to reveal the delicious lava flowing out.

Why not make Milo dinosaur lava toast for brunch? It's super simple and doesn't take too long to get everything together.

Ready? Let's go.

Ingredients for Filling:

25g unsalted butter
10g plain flour
2 tsp caster sugar
200ml milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Ingredients for French Toast:

2 eggs
80ml milk
2 thick slices white bread / milk bread
A little vegetable oil (for frying)

Ingredients for Topping:

Sweetened condensed milk
Milo powder

Method:

1. To make the filling, gently heat the butter in a pan until melted, and stir in the flour and sugar until smooth. Stir in the milk and the vanilla extract and, on a medium heat, stir continuously until thickened.

2. Pour the custard into a heatproof bowl and cover with clingfilm to stop a skin from forming, and set aside.

3. To make the French Toast, whisk the eggs and milk together until well combined in a large dish, dip the slices of bread in the egg mixture on each side, and leave to soak for about five minutes.

4. Heat a little vegetable oil in a large pan over a medium heat, and fry the soaked bread for about two minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

5. Place one slice of French toast on a large plate, drizzle with about 2 tbsp of sweetened condensed milk (or more if you like), and place the other slice of toast on top.

6. Use the back of a large spoon to squish down the centre of your French toast stack and make a well. Pour the milk lava into the centre until it reaches the top (you may have a tiny bit left over).

7. Sprinkle over tablespoonfuls of Milo – as much as you like – on top of your toast stack until completely covered / heaped, and serve immediately.

Enjoy, and have fun.
