French Toast Cheese Waffles Recipe (Single Serving)
This French toast cheese waffles recipe is part French toast, part cheese toastie, part waffle.
Although French toast is often thought of and served as a sweet breakfast, I actually grew up eating it savoury style: no sugar, just a touch of salt, and sometimes cheese.
I made this French toast cheese waffle recipe because I was craving the savoury French toast of my childhood, but I also wanted to see what would happen if I stuck it in my waffle iron.
I'd say it was a huge success.
I used a mixture of mozzarella and chilli Cheddar to stuff my French toast cheese waffle. And, as always, it's best to use slightly stale bread – if it's a little on the dry side, it'll soak up the egg mixture more easily.

Ready? Let's go.
(Makes one big serving.)
Ingredients:
2 eggs
80ml milk
Pinch of salt
2 thick slices white bread / milk bread
A few slices of your favourite stretchy cheese
A little melted unsalted butter (for frying)
Method:
1. Beat the eggs, milk and salt together in a large dish, dip the slices of bread in the mixture on both sides, and leave them to soak in it for about five minutes.
2. Brush your waffle iron (both top and bottom plates) with a bit of melted butter and preheat it before laying one soaked bread slice down on it.
3. Top with cheese (concentrating more in the centre of the bread), lay the other slice on top, and close the waffle iron. Gently but firmly close the waffle iron (it probably won't close completely), and cook according to the machine's instructions.
Enjoy, and have fun.
